To Those in the Fight:

Life is hard, and this I know; especially when you're an adolescent in high school trying to figure out who you are. And, to make life ever harder there are those who would go so far out of their way to harass and ridicule those who haven't completely figured out who they are or where they're going, those drifting through this sea of life, those testing all the different waters offered to them. Harassers, as it seems, make it their duty to find those lost in that dark water and jab at them with sticks sharpened by their ignorance. This saddens me because those wandering souls who don't have others to turn to for help... well, some of them will give up on searching for themselves and, finding a quiet place removed from their tormentors, will pause at that thin veil between life and death, unable to with- or under- stand the hatred that their aggressors inflict on them. And as they try, and try hard to understand why, they will, without their much needed direction, pass through that veil with no possible way back. They will lose themselves, their lives, and the brighter future they will have helped to create.

So. Before you contemplate taking your own life, please, oh, please remember that it gets better. Bullies will be left in your past, you will find friend who love and cherish you for who you are, and, at the end of the day, No one can make you feel inferior without your consent . Don't give those who would make you feel less of yourself that power.

With Love,
~Johnathan
I wrote this in response to the news about the increase of teenage suicides as a result of bullying and harassment.

Why is this happening?

The quote I used, if you were wondering, were the words spoken by a former First Lady, Eleanor Roosevelt

it makes me think of my best friend who committed suicide this summer.
she was gay, and was harassed all the time. i tried to be around her as much as possible to protect her, but that night my phone had died after sending smiley messages to my best friend. i wish i would have gotten that text that said "please come over, now."
